BEDFORD FAMILY SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FUND OF THE WESTPORT WESTON FAMILY YMCA TO AWARD EIGHTEEN ORGANIZATIONS GRANTS ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16

Westport, CT (December 12, 2016) On Friday, December 16 the Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund of the Westport Weston Family YMCA will award eighteen organizations from Westport, Weston, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk and Wilton the first annual grants to support programming that focuses on closing the “achievement gap” in education.

The Award Ceremony will take place on Friday, December 16 at 2:00pm in the Westport Weston Family YMCA’s Gymnasium.

“The members of the Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund committee and I are very excited to be giving out eighteen grants to organizations that are running programs that help youth in our area. We want to thank all the organizations who submitted grants and are extremely impressed by the work being done in the communities.” said Pat Riemersma, CEO of Westport Weston Family YMCA.

The Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund was formed to give back to the community by providing one year grants to organizations that focus on closing the “achievement gap” in education. Grants are awarded through a competitive application process and intended to enhance educational opportunities in a transformational way. Grants recipients are 501(c) (3) organizations serving children and/or young adults that are located in and serving one or more of the following communities: Westport, Weston, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk and Wilton.

About the Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund: In 2015, the Westport Weston Family YMCA received a very generous gift from the estate of Ruth T. Bedford. Ms. Bedford, a YMCA trustee emeritus, a philanthropist, and a strong advocate for the YMCA. Ruth Bedford’s bequest
will allow the YMCA to be a leader in the community and change lives for the next 100 years.
