After Hours Screening of Bill Cunningham New York
Friday, May 4
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Main Library Auditorium
Bill Cunningham, who died in 2016 at age 87, is noted as the best street style photographer the fashion industry has ever seen. The 2010 documentary, Bill Cunningham New York, tells the story of the man who wouldn’t let anything pass by him, without photographing it first with his 35mm camera which was slung around his neck at all times.
This Richard Press film follows the life of Cunningham, who worked for the New York Times for almost 40 years, featuring appearances from Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Michael Kors, Michael Bloomberg and Brooke Astor among other fashion world notables. Wintour sums up Cunningham’s importance as a photographer by stating, “I’ve said many times that we all get dressed for Bill.”
This program is free and open to the public on a walk-in basis. A light supper will be provided courtesy of the library, before the screening.
