In order to close the achievement gap preschool practitioners have to understand the elevated stakes of teaching preschool children no matter of their life conditions. During this keynote, the practitioners will be motivated on the work they do and recognize their value to kick off the start of the new school year.

During this hands on and engaging presentation preschool practitioners will receive information on social influences on the ethnic achievement gap and understanding the role of social environments in the academic, social, and well-being of children. Practitioners will understand what research shows about the extent of and contributions to achievement gaps
1) Some promising approaches for closing gaps that focus on family engagement and practices
2) The value of research practice partnerships in helping districts/schools/teachers reduce gaps
3) PEER’s partnership efforts with Norwalk, Stamford, and Bridgeport in supporting districts with understanding and closing English Learner gaps
