Job Description – Manager of Strategy & Continuous Improvement

Position Summary

The Manager of Strategy & Continuous Improvement is a new and developing position within the backbone staff of Norwalk ACTS. This position requires a range of skills to successfully work with cross-sector partners to enable exceptional results across multiple initiatives. This Manager role will serve as a hands-on, results-driven leader as well as a facilitator of community-selected Initiatives. Using the StriveTogether Theory of Action, this individual is ultimately responsible for meeting Norwalk ACTS system improvement goals and working with staff and partner organizations to leverage continuous improvement tools that support a systems change model.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion and lead Norwalk ACTS systems change model, enabling progress within six community-level outcomes by managing the implementation of ideas and providing project support to Initiatives & Working Groups.

• Manage, coach, facilitate, and provide technical assistance as needed to Initiatives & Working Groups to achieve objectives and complete deliverables; build capacity and oversee progress on continuous improvement.

• Document continuous improvement processes, facilitations, presentations and procedures for the Norwalk ACTS Initiatives to provide a standardized approach and communication methodology for key stakeholders. Monitor progress and quality of Initiatives ensuring the appropriate level of project methodology and rigor is being applied

• Co-lead the work of the Implementation Team.

• Build, manage, and maintain key community relationships, ensuring that equity is established as an overall mindset and focus of our work.

• Set key performance indicators and lead teams to meet on-time goals.

• Work with Data Director to identify and prepare Initiative status updates of key performance indicators for Initiatives including charts, graphs, and narratives. This includes implementing a data collection plan and helping develop the annual community report card.

• Support the ongoing collaborative work of the partnership by filling a variety of support roles including the coordination of meetings, events, and community presentations.

• Assist with grant writing and support fundraising strategies for operations and the work of the partners.

• Launch and staff the College & Career Readiness (CCR) Initiative. This includes co- convening and co-facilitating the Initiative using principles of collective impact and results- based facilitation, handling all logistics, developing agendas, taking minutes, and providing the requisite follow up.

• Conduct mapping of active organizations and individuals involved in College & Career readiness work within the community. This will inform the membership of the community resources and leaders, where gaps exist and be a critical piece of analysis that will then guide further work.

• Organize learning opportunities to build the skills and capacities of Norwalk’s diverse communities.

• Stay current and provide updates on knowledge of social issues around CCR locally, statewide, and nationally, including programmatic trends, promising practices, and public policy.

Supervisory Duties

None at the moment although we anticipate further expansion in the near future and this may change.

Essential Competencies and Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

• Strategically oriented individual who has the ability to move ideas to strategies and actions.

• Excellent communication (verbal and written), public presentation and interpersonal skills. Bi-lingual preferred.

• Ability to work independently, set priorities, and make appropriate decisions with limited direction.

• Ability to quickly process complex information from various data sources and present it clearly and simply.

• Flexibility to respond to emerging needs; creativity and innovative thinking skills.

• Strong facilitation, coordination, and project management skills.

• Knowledge of education and social service systems and the support they provide for students and families

• Knowledge of the Norwalk community and context preferred.

• Strong track record of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders/communities.

• Successful history getting results through mobilization and/or advocacy.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and G-suite and general comfort with technology and software.

• Legally able to work in the United States and provide information to complete the I-9 form.

• Candidates must complete a background checks

• Physical Requirements – The employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices. The employee must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare and analyze data and figures, constantly operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The employee is required to regularly travel to offsite locations to set-up presentations and displays. Out-of-town travel to conferences will also be required.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 40 hour a week, exempt, salaried position. The starting salary range is $70,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for employee benefits that currently include medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents as well as competitive paid time off policies.
